Installing A Home EV Charger On The Eastern Shore

More electric vehicles are showing up in driveways from Ocean Pines to Salisbury every year, and the first question every new owner asks is the same. Can I charge at home? Almost always the answer is yes, and here is how it works.

Level 1 Versus Level 2

Every EV can trickle charge from a regular outlet, but that adds only a few miles of range per hour. A Level 2 charger runs on a 240 volt circuit, like a dryer, and typically adds 20 to 40 miles of range per hour. For daily driving, Level 2 is what you want.

Your Panel Is The Real Question

A Level 2 charger usually needs a 40 to 60 amp circuit. Before we recommend equipment, we do a load calculation on your panel to confirm it has the capacity. Many homes have room to spare. Some need a panel upgrade first, and it is far better to learn that from a load calculation than from tripping breakers.

What The Install Looks Like

  • We confirm capacity and pick the right spot in your garage or driveway.
  • We run the new circuit, mount the charger and connect it to code.
  • We test everything with your vehicle and walk you through it.

Most installs are done in a day, and we handle any permits and inspection.

A Coastal Note

For outdoor mounts near the water, hardware rated for the salt air matters. We spec equipment that stands up to Shore weather, because we have watched what corrosion does to shortcuts.
